How do I remove the limit on PC keyboard button presses?

Whenever I play a PC game with the directional keys, I can only press two buttons at a time. For instance if I am playing a shooter like R-Type, I cannot hold down the fire button while moving diagonally at the same time. The computer simply ignores the extra button press.

How do I remove this limit so I can shoot while moving diagonally? This limitation seems to apply for every game.

I am running Windows 7 if it makes any difference. I noticed the same problem back when I used Windows 8

Do you have the shoot key on your keyboard?

Anyway, it's not software based. It's your keyboard itself.
Budget keyboards are made in a way that only a certain amount of keys can be pressed at a time, usually in chunks.
This is cheaper for the manufacturer.

More expensive (gaming) keyboards like the ones from Razer have something called Anti-Ghosting which means that you can press as many buttons as you want.

It's because of your keyboard, buy another one.

Try pressing shift multiple times and a window will occur try to edit the settings there;
Btw if you're using windows 10 it won't occur cuz the system automatically allows you to have limitless,
command use.

Of your new keyboard. I don't believe you. Add your forum name on a piece of paper.

(you could lie about it because you maybe don't want to spend alot of money on a good keyboard.)

There. You lied.

OT: only the 4tec G800V has Anti-Ghosting. So you probably have a different one, which doesn't support it.
