Preventing steam from updating games. [solved kind off]

after many attempts i finally got gta iv to work, however, as soon as i am trying to install an older patch, the game updates itself via steam, are there any way to prevent that nowadays? back in time you was able to choose never update..

the game works..but i need an older patch.

It's not possible anymore. Only thing you can do is add automatic updating to the time when your computer is turned off, as in during the night.

grrr...Rstar was patching the game and made it un-moddable, i literally installed the game to mod in a few cars with drifthandling..

You'd be better off just using a pirated version I guess.

Nooo, I meant the legit version on Steam called Grand Theft Auto IV: Pirate Island
