Virus-Scanner. [ANSWERED]

I wondered if a virus scanner can also detect worms?
I got AVG Anti-Virus latest version, and its great. Now I just opened a ''suspicious'' .exe and I was stupid opening it, as it mostly contains viruses/trojans/worms, so I'm scanning my whole PC now just to be safe, so.
Does it detect worms?

I was not runinng the exe anymore and AVG is the one I got now. It's awesome, so won't change any virus-scanner.

AVG is shit, tbh.
It'll fuck your system up from the core if you have some kind of bugged version.
AVG has history for it.
