The entire team-system has been removed. Teams were too easy to obtain and were often just given over to friends.

To me, it seemed you weren't asking a question. It seemed rhetorical because you answered it yourself with 'sad.' Anyway, I'll answer it here in case anyone else has the same question. You can create an unofficial faction without a group (in fact, you don't need a group at all since it's simply for OOC chatting) and if you are noticed in a good way, and this will probably be a relatively long process, you may get allocated to an already existing but currently closed faction.

Nice. There was no really use for it anyway, was only to attract players to start RPing, I believe.
