Well, i've got CoD 4 Original Serial, and I want to register the code on steam, I tried once and it didn't work.

Can you tell me how to do it right ?

It's depends of the CoD4 you've bought its meant to be installed at Steam?
There are some games which have their own program to install games/play them such as Rockstar Games Social Club if i'm not wrong..

A friend of mine quited the game and gave me his serial, i've tried the serial (Downloaded the game in a cracked version), putted it in the multiplayer options and tried an original server, it worked and now i want to play the game via steam.

You can't use a serial from a regular copy of the game in Steam, in order for a game to work in steam the game needs to be purchased within steam.
