I don't find that moderators/helpers/admins job is to lock and censure every single thread.
I feel like this is a forum, a forum is used to discuss ideas and beliefs. Therefore, I feel like it's natural topics derail and people start talking about other things. It's part of a discussion.
I do believe admins/helpers/mods job is to ban/delete posts which cross the boundaries of being insulting, racist, etc. Not locking threads or cutting every single thread that starts deviating from the original topic. Unless the original poster is not liking where his thread is going for, I see no reason to lock/delete replies.
but that's just the way I see it, and how I used to moderate forums. To be honest it is something that barely bothers me nowadays.

They are there because they are not entrusted to have powers ingame, but still entrusted enough to moderate the forum.
They are there to remove posts and warn. Not lock every thread.
In fact the entire point is to focus on not locking. But deleting and warning.
Helpers do more than moderate the forum too. Don't forget that.

You don't actually know what people do though, helpers are there to assist new players, announcments or not, it doesn't change the fact they're always helping noobs or answering their questions on the forums aswell as IG.
