Some of them are are how fast you /sub. Sometimes, you tend to get in first of the line.
However sometimes the faster you sub you tend to get to the back off the line.

It's a mixture, I guess.

I guess i'm not sure but i think it's how fast you type /sub as when the admins create the race they get the first spot and then the second one which writes /sub gets the second place and so on.

I thought it was that way for a while until I was like the first one to type /sub and I was the last in the line.

its random depending on time how quick u do /sub after its anounced

It's actually random, since I've been placed in last spot even when I typed /sub fast and then PM'ed a guy to join but he got spot ahead of me.
