I downloaded a new sound modpack.

What is this .asi file? I also found a configuration file of it with weapons.txt and weaponsound.txt

How does it affect my gameplay, is it allowed?

.asi file is the one you have to extract into GTA root folder( where gta_sa.exe is) in order to make the mod work. Asi file helps the game to inject the mod, if you dont extract asi into GTA root, mod wont work, and if your mod doesnt work even after you extracted the ASI file, search google for "Silent ASI loader" and install those files into root aswell.

As far as I've read, it limits the weapons you want your mods to identify, but I'm not sure how it exactly limits them or what's the limit at all, you can await anyone's answer or just dig into gtaforums
